Just wondering what people think about breaking in the camshaft. I had to put a little bit beefier springs because of the camshaft requirements. Now normally I would put some mild springs till the camshaft is broken in then swap in the heavier ones but I'm on a serious time restraint and was thinking of just putting the heavier ones in and run it. The pounds per inch isn't that different between the two but want to see what you guys think.
You need to lube the cam up good with the break in lube , then follow the manafacturers instuctions , ussally 1500 - 3000 RPM for 20-30 min , then run it the way you want.....Lew
the instructions that came with the cam said i had to remove the inner spring for the break in because they are are dual springs. It's just a Pain in the a.. with these motors. Not so bad when its in an old school muscle car that's low to the ground and nothing in the way of the valve covers.
I would follow the cam manufacture's recommendations. They made the stick, they know what it needs for break in. It would be a much bigger job to pull the motor after the cam self destructed due to an improper break in process.
