Don't Argue With The Guy!!
I called on a 300/6 5spd in the paper. The guy said $600 for both, not too bad seeing as it's exactly what I needed. The $600 hurt my budget a little, but thats why I cut lawns in my spare time.
When I get there he shows me what I'll be buying. Perfect is close to how it was set up. He had pulled it running with only 90,000 on the odometer from a title-less throwaway 92 F150. NOTHING WAS HACKED!! Every sensor was there not damaged, not cut wires or chopped exhaust. If I'd had another 92 F150 sitting, this would have been a straight drop in and drive in a day. The motor's clean and covered, sitting on a stand. The trans is sitting off to the side with no damage. I check it out, agree to the price and back my truck around to load it up.
Before loading, we talk about the price. I agree w/o haggling because it it a good deal. He tells me out of the many calls he'd recieved I was the only one who didn't try and change the price (to the point he had one guy cuss him out for not selling it for $200). After we load the engine and trans, we then go get the starter, clutch and pressureplate, NEW radiator, all nuts and bolts from the pull and load them. Then he collapses the engine hoist we used to lift the motor AND LOADS THAT TOO!! On top of that he throws in the engine stand the engine was on, and the leveller cradle that came with it! The whole kit is available at Tractor Supply for over $500 and he gave it to me free. When I asked him why, his only response was it's because I didn't haggle with him over the price.
Moral of The Story: The Golden Rule still applies today.
