Question 4WD problem with 97 Expedition

I just noticed in the snow and ice this morning that my front end is not pulling when in 4WD. The lights come on, but the front hubs don't seem to lock in. Is this a quick fix or an expensive fix (short of putting manual hubs on)?

4WD problem with 97 Expedition

First, In regard to the 4x4 not working at all, Check all fuses and relays in the system. If they are blown change and recheck. Second.... you cannot put manual hubs on newer F-150, or Expys. It is a centrifigual system. You might have a hall effect sensor out, or a bad motor. Dealership can tell you which one by putting on computer. The 4wd system can only be accessed by a ford repair center, it is not the same as diagnosing engine codes, so Autozone can't help. Sorry for the bad news! But on a lighter note, I have heard of a few people haveing problems with the switch on the dash. It seems that Ford packed so much grease in the switch that it might not make contact. Take off the radio trim and pull the switch apart carefully. Then clean out the grease with a suitable contact cleaner, re-lube with white lithium grease, and reassemble. Hope this helps!
