Okay well heres the situation. I'm currently looking for a small truck for gas mileage to get to school and work.
What im looking at right now is a 1996 extended cab 3.0 5 speed ford ranger 4x4. The guy says its basically a one owner vehicle (guys from texas) but he brought it up here and a friends selling it for him. The bodys suppost to have 0% rust, its got new tires and battery, and it runs good. But the only problem is that it has a exhaust manifold leak. He said its a $25 dollar fix, but from what i've heard is that this is quite a annoying job to do?
So could anyone inform me on what they think of the truck, on whether i should buy it or not, and how hard replacing the exhaust gasket would be?
Thanks!
Btw, its suppost to be getting 20-21 mpg and he wants
$1,500.
MIGHT just be EGR gasket & warped plate. If plate (mine's a OEM block-off type) is warped, get a new plate with the gasket. Not sure of '96 type or typical specs, but mine's a '93 Ranger STX 3.0L (4x4) with Mazda 5-sp stick. HAD A/C. My dad has a '94 XLT that has EGR hooked up, so no block-off plate. Tried JB-Weld -didn't hold, but may not have cleaned it well enough or crammed enough into EGR hole. The manifold itself not all that likely to have problems beyond this if still stock parts.
