Prodigy brake controller

I know many of you are using these. Can someone tell me whats the differance between the Prodigy2 vs Prodigy3?? Also where are you guys mounting them? I'd prefer not to drill holes if possible. Thanks much

Sam

As far as no drill, you can get some industrial strength Velcro from Radio Shack.

I found this on another website.
The P3 does a few things the cheaper one can't, it can handle electric over hydraulic brake systems. Most people won't run into that unless you're a hot shot driver or tow a lot of longer gooseneck trailers. The P3 is also all digital on the front giving you all sorts of control the cheaper unit doesn't, that being said even the cheaper Prodigy unit is better than just about any other brake controller on the market. The P3 is the pimp daddy version but the Prodigy won't let you down, it's great. Unless you have extra cash or just must have the LED front panel matched to your dash get the Prodigy and you'll love it.

I have mine stuffed in the cubbyhole to the right of steering wheel. IMO, the perfect location as the manual control falls right to hand without having to lean over.

No screws or mounting hardware, just a couple pieces of bicycle inner tube tucked between the prodigy and cubby keeps it quite tightly secured.
BUT, it did require drilling a hole into the back of the cubby to pass the wires through...

I have both. You will not go wrong with either one. Aslong as you don't have elec over hydro. I like the P3 better just on looks and it is a little easier to control. As to mounting the industrial velcro or good double stick tape and fasten the bracket/pocket to the right of the stearing wheel high enough to reach.

Thanks much for the replies!! Probably go with the 3 and mount it in cubby hole is a great idea.

Read the directions on mounting. If I remember it specifies to make sure it is pointing front to back on the truck not at any angle. I am not sure how much it will affect its function, but if you are buying a good controller you want to make sure it is working correctly. Just a thought.

any reason you aren't considering the Ford controller?

I've used the P3 in my Jeep for years before I got the F250. It's the only thing I kept when I sold the Jeep, and it will be mounted in the truck soon. I love it.

I put mine in the same place mws does, but I run the wires via the slot under the steering wheel and just loop behind the controller. This way when I am not needing the controller, I can remove it and put behind the seat -having the hole for other use. My 99 model has no door pockets and storage space is extremely limited. I am looking for sun-visor organizers for my registration, pens and sunglasses.

That'd be my first choice, however my truck never came with one so there's plenty of work to do to get one in. Heck the master cylinder alone is $300. Not worth the headache to me

Good point, I never gave that a thought.

I have the prodigy in my SD. Mounted it underneith the cubby hole above the 4x4 shifter. I have the 6 speed so I had to make sure I got it mounted in just the right spot so there was no contact with the shifter.

Works great.

I have the prodigy that works great but make sure you have 12v power in your 7 pin, otherwise it'll read, "No signal". It took me a day or two scratching my head until I check the 7 pin LOL.
