Stock idi egt?

Stock idi egt?

Hey guys I have a quick question. I have a 92 f350 with a 7.3 n/a in it and while towing up some steep grades I had some decent black smoke coming out of the exhaust on some hills. No more than a couple minutes at a time and I had probably 3000 worth of a trailer and dirtbikes behind me. I know for a fact the fuel pump is at stock settings but am still worried I may have damaged something or hurt the pistons. What do you think? How high can egt's get on a stock engine? Any help is appreciated!!

1100F max for a couple seconds not a long time the pistons start melting at 1250F also do you have a egt gauge

im sure you were fine man. non turbo engines dont get the the egt's like a turbo engine does, but they still can get up there. your pump turned up? non turbo engine can still melt the pistons if thats your question. and you can hold that engine at 1200 for a while man, it wont melt them. you can peak higher but not suggested for longer then a few seconds.

Thanks for the replys, no I don't have an egt gauge but everything on the truck is stock and the pump has never been adjusted. Are these engines idiot proof from the factory? Meaning a guy like me should be able to load it up and pull up some steep grades without ruining the engine? I had my foot on the floor but I wasn't asking it to do a whole lot, just maintain 80 km/h

Awww shucks, I have 3-4000 pounds on the back of my truck right now, and I cruise along the highway at 100 km/hr. I have to back off on hills though, my oil leaks get worse when I push it (CDR needs cleaned again!!) and it stink as the oil hits the exhaust manifolds lol!!!!

What are your egt's like on some hills?
