I just bought a 84 ford ranger with 72k miles, new tires, new muffler, new coils, new distributor caps, and new timing belt, wondering what i can do to make this baby shine and sparkle and run like the champ i know she is.
I want to get a new dashboard or fabricate one due to it being cracked, also needs a radio (ideas on that are welcome) get some of my friends deerskin and make the seats deerskin leather, same with the steering wheel and handle for the stick shift.
Also, what can i do to clean the bed REALLY good and coat it with something protective?
Links to different things you think i would enjoy having would be awesome!!
Sounds like you've stumbled onto a nice find & have plans to sorta restore & enjoy it.
You might be interested in "Line-X" coating for the bed.
I had an "over the rail" spray in Line-X coating installed, before taking my then brand new 99 Ranger home!!!!
It's still doing great 11 years later.
Your right about surface prep before installing a coating.
Don't know the condition of the bed, but if it's just dirty, then maybe a good cleaning with a pressure washer & sanding would do.
If you have rust, then that needs to be removed & the surface sanded before a coating is applied, maybe sand blasting would be needed if you have a lot of rust, or it's heavy. Anyway your local Line-X Dealer could advise whats needed & best to do.
Which engine/tranny combo does it have????
Does it have clear coat paint????
My boss had Line-X put in his '05 Ram 2500 HD. 1 of his former guys gouged it with a shovel in a couple spots. So OK if done right & be reasonably careful with keeping shovel edges pointed slightly up & so on.
Dashboard is cracked?.........If it is the padded part atop the dash itself, it is easy to replace with a good one from the salvage yard or a reproduction from LMC truck.
Its the padding cracked, im getting a vinyl cover 2.3 liter 4 cylinder 5 speed and a guy is going to help me with the bed, something like rhino coating or somehting? idk, but i cleaned out the radiator, put new oil in it, getting a new air filter, cleaning out the engine, making it look newer, got any ideas if the rustoleum heat spray paint for furnaces will coat some of the parts for me or will it burn off?
