I'm looking for the thread that shows you and tells you how to do the in tank mod for our trucks I want to drop my tank today its low enough on fuel and haveing power loss.
Depends on how you do it. If you scrounge up parts locally, you can do it pretty cheap. If you buy a kit like this one from Sinister Diesel, you will spend $160, but you have everything you need in one shot.
You should be able to do everything in a day, if you have all the stuff handy.
Yes, everything up to the pump is a good idea. You can install a cheap inline fuel filter before the pump, but I would recommend a full spin on style for long term.
Thanks for the info. Just for the time being would it do any good to drop the tank and clean the in tank screen?
I'd recommend plenty of research, getting the parts, and executing your plan once.
Kwiks' in-tank pump has many advantages. Calling it the ultimate is no lie. But for me, that still leaves the pump in the tank where it will forevermore be a PITA to service. I never want to go in there again. So for me a modified pickup, replacing the fuel lines, and a cheapo fuel filter before the stock pump was the ticket. I lifted the bed as opposed to dropping the tank, no picnic but it made the in-tank work easy.
Read up on Hutch and Harpoon mods and decide whats best for you.

Eliminate the tank screen. Many of us have. Do install an inline filter outside the tank and before the pump.
DIY for under $50.
1 stick of metal 3/8" brake line. You need about 4".
1 compression fitting 3/8" .
1 stick of metal 5/16" brake line. You need about 16".
1 compression fitting 5/16".
1 inline filter with 3/8" ends.
8 to 10 foot of 3/8" synthetic fuel hose 30R7 rating or better.
8 stainless steel hose clamps to double clamp each connection.
Now use a little imagination in conjunction with the Guzzle's instructions.
Do the hutch and harpoon (as most of us did) mod while the tank is down.
