Question Can I use a non ABS axel on a 94.?

Ok. My rear axel blew up. The only other axel I can find is a 3.55 8.8 non-abs. Can I use a non ABS axel on a 94 Bronco to replace a ABS axel and what is needed in order to do that?

Thanks guys.

I can't see why it wouldn't work. The effect would essentially be the same if you disconnected the sensor (which is what you'd be doing). The braking system, without a sensor reading will (or should) still function like a standard breaking system. The only drawback I can think of would be a perpetual ABS light on the dashboard. That little problem is easily solved by removing the indicator lamp.

My wife's '92 Cavalier had the rear sensor(s) disconnected completely because they were screwed up and a Cavalier isn't worth the time, effort, or money to fix bad ABS sensors! The car actually handled BETTER after the sensors were gone! (Or should I say, as well as a Cavalier ever handles).

You need that sensor. The speedometer and the computer use that sensor to control the automatic trans. It should'nt be that hard to find an axel with ABS Ford used them for awhile since sometime in the late 80's I believe.

Rats,
Joe, you are right. Forgot about the E4OD needing that speed sensor.

At one time there was a post with a part number of a sensor that attached to the transfer case and eliminated the rear sensor. You took the plug from the rear diff and plugged it in the new sensor at the t case.

I'm still wondering about that. All it says is to "plug it into the back of your transfer case." But where? My understanding is that the newer 'cases don't have any wires that are VSS related (sure they've got 4x4 indicator light wires), and no hole for a speedo gear, SO.................................?????? where exactly would this allegedly plug in?

I strongly suspect that F6529E731AA (which doesn't even look like a proper Ford PN) is just the '87-92 t-case VSS which was ONLY used for cruise and early E4ODs. It won't operate the ABS, the '93-up cruise, or the PSOM ('93-96 speedo).

The speedo hole on late-model t-cases is filled with a plug and the retainer bolt hole isn't drilled or tapped.
