I am 21, Dont drink alot... 170lbs, 6'0'' pretty well built dude. Anyways... i was waxing my truck the other day and had 5 Budweisers... stopped drinking at 8:30pm I was buzzin pretty good, borderline drunk. I had to wake up for work at 0430hrs to go to work. I was able to think, speak and walk clearly, but i was kinda dizzy, no headache or anything else, and not really even dizzy, i just felt kinda like my head was in a cloud, like i was walking around in a haze. Is it at all possible that i was operating a motor vehicle "drunk" or am I just overreacting and being hypercritical of myself. I know the rule is an hour for every beer you drink, but... when you consider I drive a vehicle around for 12 hours at work... i feel kinda guilty.
Because a lot of it would depend upon your BAC. And, your BAC can still increase for a period of time after your last drink. If I had to guess, I'd say it was not completely out of your system by the time you had to get up for work. Here's a good article that can give you a lot of information about alcohol, the time it takes to get out of your system, and ways to avoid achieving a high BAC when drinking.
Having said that, the best way is to abstain....especially if you are going to be on the road driving for any length of time the next day. Save it for a time when there's nothing on the agenda the following day and/or you won't need to drive for quite a while afterwards.
8 hours for 5 beers? I think you were fine. You were probably a little dehydrated. I get to feeling the same way if I don't drink water/gatorade/etc, before going to bed...
I would not say you were still drunk. sounds more like you were a little dehydrated to me,which is common if you don't drink water during and after you drink. People are different, but When I was in the Military,I drank more than that and had tests at 1st formation, always passed.
What you were drinking may have also played a part. Back in my own drinking days, Budweiser began giving me terrible headaches (even a few beers, not overdoing it). I switched brands. No more headaches, except when I deserved it. Someone told me that Bud is made from rice and it reacts differently to the body. Don't know for sure. Abstinence has prevented me from a hangover for 19 years, that much I DO know. On the other hand, getting up at 0430 makes me fuzzy for a while, too.

Whether you were or not, I appreciate the fact that you are thinking about it and showing concern. Like Bruce said, learn from the experience.
Like the rest said... every body reacts differently. But you were probably just dehydrated or hung over(dehydration is part of this).
It is unlikely that you had enough alcohol in your system to be legally drunk but if an officer feels you were impaired during a stop, you would still not have much fun.
For flyers the FAA rule is "8 hours between bottle and throttle". I assume this is from experience and more stringent than for civilian drivers.
If you don't feel right for driving you probably shouldn't drive, no matter what you think caused it. You can be impaired due to booze, drugs, lack of sleep, medicines, fight with girl friend, whatever. It is called DUI Driving Under Influence, not Driving while Drunk. So it can be a catch all for an officer spotting weird behavior.
You never mentioned what time you went to bed but I'd bet that you were dehydrated as well as lacking enough restful sleep or the amount of sleep that you normally get.
I think your being a little tough on yourself but I also appreciate that you are a responsible mature adult with a conscience. That in itself will serve you well sir.

This sounds like a match.com ad to me, I don't know about anyone else
I'm pretty much with the rest of everybody on this one. Every body can react to alcohol differently. I don't drink hard stuff, maybe a gin and tonic, jack and coke, or a quick couple shots here and there, but I mostly stick to beer. I can go out with my buddies from work and drink until 3AM get home by 3:30AM and be at work ready to go for 7AM for a 12 hour shift no problem. That being said I'm asleep the second I get home. I'm 22. My buddies who are the same age have a hard time going home at midnight and trying to crawl into work at 7AM. It's all depends on the person. I know when I'm outside doing something like waxing the truck in the sun, I can have two beers and have a roaring headache.
