Another on the fly post from my phone. Heading to towwn to pick up a rotor and maybe get my truck back on the road tomorrow. How much fluid should I buy to flush the system and fill it? I'm also putting new pads all the way around and believe I need to burl the new pads in. Do I need sandpaper to do this properly?
Figure while I'm doing all of this that I should flush my power steering system how much and of what should I get?
Thanks for the answers n advance, I don't have a way to search the forumsright now.
The big ( I think it's quart) bottle of brake fluid they sell is not enough to do the flush. The big bottle and one little one is usually enough, but I'd get 2 of the big bottles.
Power steering takes ATF. Many of us use synthetic. 3 or 4 quarts should be enough for a flush there.
yes the break in method for pads for different for EACH brand / line of brake pads. Different compounds operate effectively at different temperatures. This is the whole reason for the burnishing. However, I usually do a bunch of stops from 30-35 to 0 then one or two from 50-0 and let the brakes cool. I've never had a problem.
Picked up 4 small bottles of dot 3 &4 synthetic fluid and I still have a 5th bottle of dot 3 that I will start the flush with.. on my hawk pads, the sandpaper mention was on the installation section of the same box posted above. Getting to it right now.
