Physical size difference

How much size diffrence is there between the 6.0 and the 7.3? I have an 87 e150 conversion van that im modding for buisness purposes and was wandering if a 6.0 would fit. The 80's vans came with the idi 7.3, so im wondering if i could squeeze a 6.0 in there?

Have hammer, will travel The physical size would be the same pretty much for the engine. The turbo and down pipe will be the first place to inspect for room as well as the oil pan to cross member.

Firewalls can be moved..lol. As far as the cross member i have to make a new one anyhow since this van is being converted to 4wheel drive.
I have to admit i know little about the 6.0. I do know about the gremlins and its out of the box power advantage to the 7.3.
If i go this route i may only tune a little.
The plan is 1 ton running gear..no less then 35"inch rubber and still tow a 15' enclosed trailer.

Hope you are good at electronics because that will be 99% of the challenge. Physically the engine would be a walk in the park and you have to figure the Torq-Shift and transfer case into the mix. The bolt pattern will not intermix with older transmissions. Ford vans use a different configuration of the 6.0L than the trucks.

Sounds good. The Motor/trans and t-case are all together.Parting out a 06 f350 that has been rolled.
The 302 and the AOD that are in the van will be going into an Aerostar.
Thanks for the info.

the upper and lower oil pan, the fuel lines, the oil filter housing, the fuel filter housing, the dip stick, cac tubes, cac, radiator will also not work. They are all e model only parts. the F stuff wont fit.
you may want to send Rickatic a pm and see if he has the van parts you need for sale.

Thanks for the heads up. Making stuff fit is half the challenge. 3rd gen and 4Th gen vans share very little in common so allot of mods will be made.
Depending on the outcome of this swap. i have three other vans in my fleet that may get the same swap.
I own a BBQ business that caters to off road events,so i have made a few friends in the rite places.
These vans are rolling advertisements and tow rigs. I want them to be unique.
I appreciate any and all help guys. I'm not new to Diesels..just never tried to swap one.

to add your best bet is going to be to use a wire harness for a van as well theres no way the ficm will fit on top of the valve cover.
After working on a number of vans its not something I would want to build. But sence you are going from ground up you may want to make the cab removable or a tilt front clip.

Good idea on the tilt front end.I made a note of it. I didn't expect it to be easy..lol I'm up for the challenge.
I have a lift,so lifting the body is doable..just a royal pain in the a%#. Even though its going to get a workout on this project.
I could have gone a different route..but I'm intrigued by having a 6.0 in there..i really don't know why.
