hey guys. i am looking at a 2005 van with 6.0 powerstoke. the van
has 144,000 miles on it. i have a 7.3 powerstroke f250 with very
few problems. my question is what are the issues of the 6.0.
are there any engine issues or recalls with these motors. are the
parts more expensive or cheaper than the 7.3. the 6.0 is a f350
van with enclosed service body. its in good shape. could someone
tell me what a good price would be for this van.
thanx alot guys f250 7.3 powersrtoke 144,000 f350 idi 210,000
thanx alot for the info. so what are some of the problems with egr. also are the 7.3
engines less trouble. oh also, if proper maintenance will the 6.0 get the high milage
like the 7.3

Not really a fair question as no one knows how the vehicle was taken care of. This was pointed out earlier, but no matter what you buy "used" you are buying a pig in a poke! I dont care if its a dodge or a chebby/government motors vehicle, they all have had problems and you have no clue what was done with them. Best you can do if allowed is take the van to a shop that deals with diesels see how much they charge to evaluate the mechanicals and go from there. 100000+ is not a big deal for any vehicle any more since they are all pretty bullet proof IF taken care of. So you will need to decide what it is you want and if its in your price range go for it, but as I said no "used" vehicle can be determined to be like new. Buy it drive it and in a couple of days, weeks, months something can go wrong, but again this is true of any make vehicle you may purchase. I bought a nissan 4cyl car with 140K on it ran it another 140K and it ran like a champ but it was developing issues. Bought a ranger PU with 60+K on it and it had issues that I eneded up rebuilding the transmission after about 6 months. Visually and mechanically all appeared fine, but the issue with the trans was one that was hard to determine. SO that life, ya gotta be ready to sometime pay the piper. No guarantees on anything anymore. The 6.0 can be a good engine and from the numbers of them out there they are, but there are also some that have been problems and they are the ones that you hear about the most.
thanx alot for taking the time to respond. i havent had a 6.0 before. i dont have
the money to make a mistake with. i know there is no way to predict the future,
but i just wanted some input before i made a decision. again thanx alot
