Engine Swap Questions
This leads to another conundrum, if I get a V8 for it will I need to take the bellhousing and maybe trans too which really kills possible parts cars. Did any 57-59 cars come with the same transmission and a y block or did they use a different trans in trucks that won't line up?
I also have a 65/66 M250 that I'm using for parts. Half the frame is missing so i can't really get at the transmission, its a 4 speed that was behind a 300. I doubt that it bolts up to any 50's bellhousings but if it does let me know.
To mount the 292 you will need the correct light truck bell F100 through 350 and a from mount for the crossmember as the 223 bolts on top and the 292 bolts behind it.
65 up transmission will not bolt to a Y or 223 bell.

I had assumed that the 292 would be a good candidate for a simple drop in. I had also assumed that I could use my original 3speed or even the 71 3speed without trouble. Is this not correct? Finding donor vehicles right now is a bit tough. Could any required crossmembers be fabbed up easily?
Also, any idea what that big pulley thing on the end of the clark 5speed is? Is it a parking brake?
Original three speed will work.
5.0 will not bolt to any Y block or 223 262 bell.
The 5.0 and the aod would be the better choice as it is the easiest.
For this you will need a small block cross member available form just about anybody and a new transmission cross member from just about anyone. Remove the old bell housing mount as it just in the way. Mount the engine at the correct angle and offset. Modify your drive shaft to fit.
