How hard is it to get a chunk of aluminium step plate and make your own skid plate for your oil filter? No wonder this nation is in so much trouble if an owner can't even handle a simple task like this. Skid plate, maybe remote the oil filter if you want to get fancy.

HINT: Remember that you eventually need to take the oil filter off, so you might want to make the plate removable, maybe using 1/4 turn fasteners or something....or do you even change your own oil?

Are you serouis? So spending extra 10K for 4x4 package I should at least expect that the paper thin filter would be below everything else on the truck. I guess I should expect ever time I get stuck in mud and snow, to get it towed because the filter breaks off.

Come On!

I think they should remove protection from the radiator also - just strap it under the front bumper with no protection.

It's not that I can do it and will, but just watch if I have any engine issue and have to take to ford, they will refuse to work on it. For $50,000 dollars why the hell didn't they think fo this. Watch their commericals, running through mud - I will bet they had the same issue.

Mounting a skid plate to your frame to protect your oil filter will not void any warranty. Good grief, that is ridiculous.

Look, instead of complaining about it and trying to drum up support why don't you solve the problem, post text and pictures and impress the socks off of us?

I got you, my dealer locally sucks. I will fix and post. Side note, got vehicle, had 200 miles on it and the rearview mirror fell off and broke the glass. No, I did not have it offroad. They refused to fix it. I took it to another dealer about 30 miles way - no problem - fixed with a smile. Auffenburg dealer here sucks.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Maybe one of the companies that makes after market parts will make a skid plate. If enough people complain about it to Ford, maybe they will make one. Most people who have bought the new truck like yours, probably don't even know that the filter hangs down like that. Good luck.

If anyone is thinking about seriously using their 2011, F250/350 as an off-road vehicle, I don't think they bought the right vehicle...lol Same with mine. Too heavy, too big, etc.

I've seen a couple posts recently from consumers that are pissed at Ford or the dealership (or anyone but themselves) because of their own lack of research and planning.

OP, come on, if you wanted a "real" 4x4 for offroad you should have looked at this stuff. Tell me you looked at the air intake so you know how deep of water you can go through, or the breather lines on the differentials, transmission, etc before you bought your truck. You checked all the electrical "boxes" too right to make sure you knew where they were, waterproofed them too? You have a skid plate on your gas tank and transmission/transfer case, right? You had a place install lockers front and rear too, and put on more aggressive tires too. Or if you didn't do all of this and more it's Ford's fault, or the dealership, or even maybe my fault because I read about it online...but not your fault, right?

So Franko, yeah, I was joking, being sarcastic, facetious, something. I can't believe someone is so upset that they don't have a 4x4 (is that somehow a subjective term...or do they really have a 4x4) because their oil filter is in the wrong place (again subjective, because an engineer put it where it goes and the consumer doesn't get to pick a spot and have Ford design it that way).
you can't argue with that logic, i 100% agree here....people need to be accountable for THEIR actions, the bottom line is the OP pulled the trigger on the purchase (was he forced by FORD to do so?)

Redford kind of nailed it as far as I'm concerned. Had I read your post with a title like, "Ford's Crappy Location for Filter - FIXED" and you had fabbed a skid plate with a description and pics you'd have 100 responses saying stuff like "Kick *ss Man!!! Good job. I had no idea it hung down like that. Thanks!". Whining about something though, just doesn't get it done.

If you really think your $50k truck is worthless as a 4x4 I'll give you eight bucks and a get out of jail free card from an old Monopoly game I no longer have, trade straight across for your worthless truck. Or, maybe your $50k truck is really worth about $49,995 and it's missing a piece of aluminum or steel and $5 worth of your time.

Ace, I didn't say it's worthless and I didn't say I will not fix it with a plate, I am simply saying for 50k or more important the reputation of Ford as the truck to buy, this was a crappy design as far as placement of oil filter. Your attitude that it's my fault and Ford is always perfect stinks.
I was just asking for help - maybe solution out there where I didn't have to re-invent the wheel. I thought this forum was for that? Excuse me!

You should have purchased the Ford F350 SRW 4x4 (or a F450/F550 super single). You should have had it immediately taken to a shop that does driveline work and had ARB air-lockers front and rear, with no smaller than 35" tires (more like 37" to 39" tires with an aggressive mud-terrain pattern), small lift with cut out fenders, a 19.5" (or similar size) forged wheel (super singles in the rear if a dually), 4.56 - 5.13 gears (yeah, I know it's a diesel). You should also have an aux fuel tank installed, tool boxes, relocation kit for your oil filter, run extended breather lines on all diffs/trans/etc., etc., etc.

Here's an example of something similar to what you "should" have done (without all the fire fighting equipment)...since you asked:

General Fire Equipment's brush truck specifications
