POlarizing Generator

If you didn't Polarize the generator when you put it on the car and the car runs, have you ruined the generator?

Possibly. If the regulator is a relay type, it may be more likely to have burnt the contacts. A lot depends on condition of wiring, charge of battery, etc.

Unless you changed the ground from neg to positive or vice versa, the generator was probably already correctly polarized.

I did install a battery backwards in a generator equipped vehicle, and ran it, and everything survived. Probably just lucky.

Generators are fairly rugged...i.e. tough.

I made a mistake the first time I tried to polarize a generator and fried the wires from the generator to the regulator. I was stunned as I watched the wires melt at a rapid pace from one to the other. Read the instructions and do it right as you might only have one chance.
