What is recomended for a steering gear lubricant on the 64 and earlier steering box.
I found molly grease in there. I see that is an inefficent lube as it has no way to flow into contact as there is no grease fitting on the box. In my mind a 140W gear oil would be superior as it can flow and travel throught the gearbox and into contact with the mesh area. I even thought of taking some ISO class 600 oil from work and utalizing that as it is EP rated and thicker yet.
It's available from Ford, comes in a cardboard tube. The tube is placed into a grease gun, then injected into the gearbox.
XG1C (replaced C3AZ19578A) ..Steering Gear Lubricant-Use with M/S gearboxes.
MSRP: $3.43 // PARTSGUYED.COM price: $3.08.
100's of dealers stock this stuff...there's only one page on the dealer locator that lists the sources. There are so many dealers listed on the west coast, I cannot tell you who has any in your area.

another name for this is - Semi-fluid … grease. If you can’t locate… I have tubes if this for a variety of projects in the works. If you need one let me know. I bought a bulk 5 gallon bucket of the stuff and had it stuffed into tubes.
I appreciate the input. I had a guy rebuild it. He used the appropriate 90wt oil. It now leaks. I am considering my options. How bad would it be to use the 00 grease instead of 90wt oil?
Grease, not oil, is the appropriate lubrication for your steering box. Many people have assumed, incorrectly, that gear oil would be correct, and leaking is the result.
