Bad muffler????

I just installed a flowmaster muffler, I have come to the conclusion it is bad. It was misfiring and I finally have that squared away(i think) went to autozone had them run diagnostic cleared it then went for a ride and came back and no codes showed up. But I'm still getting that sound out of the muffler of a misfire and around 55-60 mph i get a little hesitation like a misfire. Anybody have any ideas????

I doubt the muffler itself is "bad", more like it woke up something in the engine electronics.

I'd clean the MAF, check for vacuum leaks, that sort of thing. You might have sent it over the edge with the new muffler.

I agree, I do not see how a muffler can be "bad". The stock muffler is extremely free flowing, so the tiny change going to a FM should not induce problems.

More likely is the louder muffler made a pre-existing problem more noticeable. IE, now you can hear it...

Which FM did you install? How many miles on stock muffler?

There were 95k on original muffler, I installed 50 series FM, I don't think it woke any existing problem up, it ran sweet before I changed plugs, boots, springs and mufflers. I installed bosch platinum plugs that would not have anything to do with it. Went to autozone last night diagnostic read 7 and 9 I changed both coil packs and I'm still getting that feeling a little also I'm not 100% sure that the muffler has a weird back pressure sound or what but i refuse to pay 130.00 for a diagnostic its ridiculous we cant fix our own cars anymore without a goddamn computer.

Ahhh, the rest of the story.
May I suggest using Motorcraft plugs instead? And check the primary wire connectors to the COPS. It is not uncommon to break or not properly seat them.

Oh I beg to differ on that one. There have been numerous posts here with guys asking about using anything but Autolite or Motorcraft plugs and the answer has always been the same. Stick with the OEMs. I know the aftermarket can be sometimes less expensive but in the long run you will be most happy with correct components.
