Well I thought I'd let you know how I fixed this thing. I took my air compressor and let it build up to 150 lbs of air, disconnected the heater hose back to the water pump, and fired the air down the hose. There was a sort of pop sound and all sorts of rusty water came out of the radiator cap opening. I can only assume there was a blockage in the water jacket(?) as I had run a wire thru the hoses previously and the wire passed thru easily.
Then I attached the air line to the hose that goes back to the thermostat housing and hit it with air-that blew the hose up at the T-fitting. I replaced that hose and didn't bother using the T-fitting over to the rad, I just blocked it at the rad.
I filled it up with water, and I had heat!
I wish I'd tried the air trick first, it would have saved me a lot of time and money. Oh well, maybe this thread will help someone else one day. I'm going to flush the system one more time now as the fluid seems to be circulating, and hopefully this will work for the winter.
