My 1979 F-100 351 M short bed has a vibration. It started about 10 days ago. I was hauling a load of lumber and now I have a vibration on acceleration, it gets worse inbetween 35 and 60mph. If I let off the gas vibration is gone or I just cant feel it. Never had this issue before and I drive it every day as it is my only transportation. The vibration is getting worse as the days go by. Please give me some ideas. Thanks.
Bent drive shaft
drive shaft out of balance. [balance wieght came loose]
U-joint going out.
Pinion bearing getting bad .
pinion bearing nut working loose.[ this happend to me once]
front balance on engine going bad.
axle bearings front or rear getting bad.
Just a few ideas, good luck.
How does it idle? Did it start suddenly? Is it there all the time just really bad on acceleration? How about when cruising at a constant speed?
Could also be engine related, a bad cylinder, spark plug, wires etc.
Just another area to check.
The vibration gradually got worse after I carried a load of lumber. It was not there before. Also to note the tranny has about 5000 miles on it. At cruising speed it has vibration when giving it gas. No vibration at idle, but when I first start it, it has a hard time staying running, but after it is running a minute or three it runs without a prob. Which I related to it needing carb work. Everything is stock. The power sucks but I related that to all the smog crap and its a 351m. Just had a complete tune up. New coil, distributer, plugs, wires, vacume pipe on the front of the intake manifold, and a new ignition module.
I have a couple more questions. First one. Truck has factory a/c is it true that if there isn't enough coolant that the compressor wont work? Does anyone know where I can get a leveling kit suspension that is. Its 2wd and I just want to lower the back end I believe it needs to come down about 2" to level out the truck. Is there a shackle kit? The big one, I heard in a couple threads that you can check the lines in the smog area/emisions. I heard there can only be a certain amount of parts per million or something like that and it will effect how it runs. I already know it is easier to just change the manifold and carb, but I dont have the cash for that right now.
