Installed it late this afternoon and its cool as he... I really like it,, I havent had time to do any reading yet to even begin to venture into what its capable of. (only did the quick start instructions).. but as usual I do have one question. When I give Eric a call and get my other top..(tuner).. If the monitor is pluged into the computer port,, where does Eric plug into??
I have the Insight but haven't gotten a tuner yet. If I understand correctly, you'll unplug your Insight from the OBDII port, plug the SCT tuner into the port and download the stock program then upload the custom tune of your choice, unplug the tuner, then plug the Insight back in.
However, before you get the tuner, I'd highly recommend you get the optional EGT probe for the Insight and install it then get a quality fuel pressure gauge and install it. I've already got the EGT probe installed and fuel pressure gauge is on the way. I'm also going to install the upgraded fuel regulator spring since I already know my pressue is getting to the min recommended pressure of 45 psi at WOT on the stock tune. I don't want to go with the tuner before I get my fuel pressure a little higher.
Lewis - I have both the Insight and the SCT programmer. I would recommend you read the threads and don't be surprized if the Insight behaves a little differently after you have downloaded the SCT tunes.
I found (as others have) that the Insight gets confused about the make of truck it is hooked to and loses some of the parameters. If you unplug it and re-start it a few times it will start working again - so don't be alarmed by this when you see it.
thanks guys,, but i thought ive seen a programer for the tunes mounted on the dash, etc.. even seen some that appeared to have a + and - on it.. have i been looking at the wrong things,, if so,,you must be pluging these things in to something..lol.... and yes, already got the fuel gauge and egt probe,, just havent hooked it up yet,,thanks again.
I prefer the pillar pod because it puts the Insight in your line of sight and at a more visible angle. However, I'm using the dash pod now because it comes out much easier for dealer visits, until my warranty is up in December.
Perfect! Thanks for the pics. The pillar pod does look to have the insight in a little better view, but I see what you mean about the dash pod. Is yours a programmer, or just a monitor? Do you have a problem with warranty work with just a monitor?
The Insight is just a monitor but I still take it out before bringing the truck in for warranty work. It's worth the two minutes of work to avoid the possible hassle.
Nice! I like the placement of the gauge. Are those two different gauges in the pictures, or just two different mounts?
I heard through the grapevine that they may be adding FP functionality to the new CTS Insight. The adapter will probably cost as much as a standalone gauge though, so I may go that route. I will hopefully be buying the Insight at least in the next month... looking forward to being able to see everything that is going on with the truck!
The little mechanical fuel pressure gauge I have under my hood only cost $20 from summit. Cheap verification that the electrical in-cab gauge is working correctly.
I have a mechanical gauge on some thin 1/8in tubing that I usually use at work on engines very well so I brought it home and used it on my truck when I did the upgraded blue fuel spring kit. My question is the port that I used on the fuel filter housing to test the pressure your main port for permanent readings. If I was going to make it permanent I would probably use a different hose then my plastic on its just a test gauge. Just wanted to know if you are hooking you permanent gauge there.
