I haven't noticed any issues with my paint thus far. Maybe I should look a little closer. But maybe it's an opportunity to buy a nice cowl induction hood!
Mark, I havn't had any problem but I bought a hood blanket within 2,000 miles of buying the truck because of the hood temps. Like stated be4, I am ****. We get in the 100's here and coupled with the engine heat I decided to play it safe.

High temps around here also! The spots are on the drivers side, above the back part of the degas bottle (not above the cap). There is even a "second skin" of sheet metal under that area, so I have a hard time believing it is from engine heat (although I thought long and hard about the hood blanket).
Definitley not from rock "dings". No evidence of any chemical contact (no bubbling - just flaking off).
To know exactly whats going on, I need to ask a few questions.
1. What are you seeing inside these flaked off areas, you seeing gray primer(e coat) or bare metal?
2. Is this the only area so far?
3. To your knowledge has the truck been in a accident, had the hood worked on?
I have delamination on my 03 superduty but mostly in areas like top edges of the front doors, where the paint is exposed to lots of rocks/rain/weather etc...
As far as these ford trucks go I haven't heard of any paint related/quality issues.
Nothing like that here but on a previous vehicle I had small spots of paint lift under bird droppings that were not removed soon enough. Since then I do a quick wax on horizonal surfaces between complete waxs. I also remove droppings as soon as I notice them rather than waiting until wash day.
I don't get near as upset over cats resting or walking on my vehicles as I once did because I figure they might scare the birds away.

1. gray primer. no bare metal
2. hood area only
3. Absolutely no accidents, and no hood work. I am the original owner
Constantly fighting bird droppings also though! May be pellet gun time.
It's not typical on the Fords, but it does happen. Might have been something that happened a long time ago at the factory and it's just now showing up. No way to really tell. Time for a visit to the paint shop or as previously stated.....cowl hood.
