Recently purchased a '98 Expy EB with 37,000. Overall, it's a great vehicle, but I am annoyed by the chimes when it's in reverse. It sounds like I am driving a moving truck. Can this be deactivated? I didn't see anything in the owners manual or didn't look very well. Please advise.
I don't know of any Expy coming with back up chimes. Did you purchase it from a company who used it for "special" things? Like a former county vehicle or something? My guess is that someone put them in for a reason. They shouldn't be there at all. There must be a module for it somewhere under the dash or something......good luck.
My Expi has no type of "chime" for reverse. Is this a sound that is coming from inside or from the rear/outside? It is very possible that who had it before you may have installed a reverse alarm of some sort. If I were you, I would follow the sound from where it is coming from and disconnect the wire to the beeper alarm. It is probably tied into the reverse light wiring. Just a thought. Good luck.
Thanks for the feedback. I bought my Expy from a dealer and never had to put the vehicle in reverse until I brought it home. I will follow the exterior sound and disconnect the alarm.
