ok i have a 1984 ford f150 it 4 wheel drive and its inline 3oo six i have had it for about 2 years now .. its been giving me trouble alot of trouble it started about a month ago and it would cut off when it was warm out side then it would cut back on after about 5 minutes and then itwould run pretty good.. now its worse it will cut off after about a minof running... here is a list of things i have done to it to try to fix it . i put a new disributer cap and roder and a new coil new plugs and wires ignition modulator and i have checked the carb to see if the bowls were sticking and the carb looks great !!!! its really starting to **** me off and if any body has anything they could suggest i would really really appreciate it !!!
I'm thinking the pickup coil in the distributor if 84 still is using a Duraspark. Should read 400-800 ohms across the colored leads. 84 is a little too new for me.
hmmmmm. mabe, unless he has a modual on the dist, but they didn't use that set up until 85, 84 has no computer,
Actually, it could, my 84 had a computer, a feedback carb, and a digital dizzy like the 85's had.
Easiest way to determine what kind of ignition you have is to look at the dizzy; if it has an oval connector at the dizzy, you've got TFI. If you have a round-ish plug, you have Duraspark II.
First thing I'd check would be the codes. Look for a red connector on the pass side near the starter solenoid. If it has one, you have a computer. Have Autozone check the codes and let us know what you come up with.
