hi guys i'm looking at a friends 2004 excursion with a 6.0 that seems to have multiple problems. the truck is stock with 175k on it. It had multiple codes from misfires to egr to icp codes in it. almost won't start at all and when it does (usual with a little help from some wd-40) it has no power and blows alot of black smoke. he was running a BIO fuel for awhile untill he burned up the lift pump and clogged the fuel filters so we got that all cleaned out but been slowley losing power ever since. I was thinking HPOP but after reading all the stuff on buildup in the turbo i'm not so sure anymore. Any help would be very grateful thanks Joe
Don't know where to start...lots of black smoke plus fuel filter getting clogged along with a burnt lift pump might have damaged injectors. I have heard that with bad injectors dumping a lot of fuel, the exhaust reeks of unburnt diesel fuel and is unmistakable. Also read that an egr valve that is stuck open will exhibit some of those symptoms.
I would start by taking out egr valve and cleaning it. Make sure it is closed and re-install it and leave the plug disconnected. Check glowplugs as well. Also check FICM voltage and if possible check fuel pressure psi. Tech folder has some good trouble shooting tips in it too. Keep us posted and good luck.
