Well I don't remember when I did the SMF conversion on my 90, around 8 to10 years ago, with around 50 thousand miles on it now. The truck just rolled over to 200,000 miles the other day. All I can say I have no problems with it. On the other hand the center bearing went out on the DMF in my 97 this spring, throwing the flywheel out of balance, and it cracked the transmission bell. Had to get a parts truck to replace that tranny. My son's 97 did the same thing, only it didn't crack the tranny. Up in the 94-97 stroke forum they swear by the single mass conversion. If I'm not mistaken, the 99 and later superdutys run the single mass setup. So as far as I'm concerned the single mass is far better than the dual mass, right or wrong.

Remember the 99 and up also have ZF 6 transmissions instead of the ZF 5.

If it were mine, solid single mass flywheel.

But I know I have read many posts complaining about the gear roll over noise after the solid flywheel conversion.
Some trucks seem to have more of a noise issue than others.
Some owners also seem to have more of an issue with that noise than others.

I hope this does not qualify as a thread hijack but I want to put a 5 speed out of a '93-7.3 2 wheel into my '83 6.9 2 wheel. What should I expect or be prepared for?

It should be pretty straight forward. The Clutch plates are different, the ZF has a larger input shaft. I used a single mass conversion for a 7.3, as I couldn't come up with the correct clutch plate. Get the transmission tunnel cover from the 93, as the ZF is taller than the T19. It will match up to the screw holes in the 83. The drive shafts might need shortened or lengthend, I'm nor sure on a two wheel drive. On my 85 I used the 208 transfer case that was on it, and the shafts bolted right up. Just remembered the 93 tranny won't have the speedometer drive port in it, so the speedo wont work.
