I replaced the head on my 1990 f150 and now it wont run righ,t the plug wires are routed correctly and dont know what else the problem could be. some one told me you cant adjust the valves so i didnt, could this be the problem?
Valves are not adjustable on these motors and if you used all OEM parts there is no reason it should need adjustment. What motor do you have and what about the way it runs isn't right?
I believe that the adjustments are made by inserting a longer or shorter OEM push rod, depending on the clearance reading during the setup. I don't think that you can use the same push rod without at least checking for minimum clearance requirment. For example the 5.0 engine requires 0.071-0.193 in.with a desired 0.096-0.165 in.
its an xlt lriet and i have to advance the timeing way out to get it started and then it revs real high i can bring the timeing back down and it will slow down and remain running but it back fires from the exahst and throtel body and shakes real bad. does anyone think the EGR valve could be the problem?
