Starting a new build. One of my old 92 4x4 f150 I passed off to my younger brother. He bagged it and now passed it off to my youngest brother.
The 5.0l is on its last legs at 240000 km. we have three possible swaps.
351w, 351c, 460 or 429( require same work)
1) we have a 2v 351 cleveland sitting in the back 40. Know nothing abut its history as we got it for free from a nieghbors family member.
2) I found a 94 351w on kijiji for 500 bucks. 140000 km
3) 460 or 429. brother wants power but i said it would be a hard swap as the e4od has to go.
I plan on going the F4 351W. Using the e4od, but going with a carborator.
electric fuel pump.
Is the tcm seperate from the ecu on this truck. and what am i getting into.
Anyone else who's done a swap like this give me a shout.
The 351w is the best candidate and is close to a simple drop in replacement with the addition of a 5.8/E4OD EEC. If you keep the E4OD you have to keep the EEC because it controls both the engine and trans, and it wants to see input from the engine sensors too or the trans won't work right so you may as well keep it EFI or change the whole powertrain. The BB motors will require a trans swap as well because they won't even bolt up to the SB trans and the 351C is just as big a problem because it was never offered with EFI.
