I am planning on buying a new truck next Spring. I am probably going to buy a Supercrew Lariat with the 5.0 engine. I want to purchase a cab-high camper shell to put on it as well. I was wondering if anyone who has a camper shell like this on their truck could tell me whether you noticed any difference in gas mileage, whether it was lower or higher once you installed the shell.
I had an ARE shell on my 94 F150 reg cab long bed with a 300 pubic inch L6, and another ARE camper shell on my 99 F250 reg cab long bed with a 444 pubic inch noisy smoke pot. There were absolutely no differences in gas/diesel mileage before and after. I drove each truck about 1 year without the shell and 2 years with. The utility of the shell was great though it is impossible to load a motorcycle or pull a gooseneck once installed.
