OK guys here is whats on the plate... I have a 4" MBRP turbo back exhaust on the way with a 3" DP, I have a home made cold air in take with a 12" AEM filter, I am going to have Jim build me a premium set of stage two injectors. I am also going to put the BANKS 1.0 turbo housing on to get some low end boost... Here is my question, I drive my truck daily about 30 miles and very rarely on long trips (about once a year) I am going to have DP tuners do the 100hp performance tune on the PCM.... I know I will need a new HPOP prob a 17* but does anyone have any suggestions on which brand or where to get one that won't cost me 2k lol.. Also any input on my proposed setup would be appreciated... I am also going to order the bully dog kit to increase my trans line pressure and get a set of gauges (boost, EGT's, and maybe fuel or oil pressure)...
If it were me, i would leave the stock housing on the exhaust, you are going to yield some high EGT's with the 1.0 housing and stage 2's. Check out Terminator Engineering for a modded 17* HPOP. Do you have an auto or manual tranny?
I have an auto trans... So the bigger housing= higher EGT's I would have guessed the opposite but that great to know.. Well with that money saved I am still looking at around 4k for the parts I need so I guess it will take me a few months lol but with the stage two injectors would it be wise to spend the extra 500 and get the dual HPOP set up or just have them build my HPOP for 2k?

You are correct, smaller housing=higher egts, the stock housing is 1.15, so going to the smaller 1.0 housing will yield higher egts. And no, you can run a modded 17* Terminator pump with stage 2's just fine and it will cost alot less than 2k. Email Joey at Terminator Engineering to find out more on that. Has the tranny been built? If not, it probably wont be long before that takes a dump with stage 2's unless you drive VERY conservatively.
My year truck supposedly comes with a .86 turbo housing that is why they made the 1.0 for lower rpm spooling... I am not 100% but I have asked a few guys and they agreed... as for the pump it was 2k on his website if I sent in mine to be built I am sure for that money I can find someone offering new ones with a core....
Email joey@terminatorengineering.com about a modded 17* HPOP. His prices will surprise you. It is FAR less than $2000, even for dual HPOPs. We just can't quote prices for him on the forum.
Your truck comes with a 1.15 housing stock, the superdutys had the .85 housing. A smaller housing creates boost faster that's why some go with the smaller 1.0 housing on our trucks instead of the 1.15. With Stage I or bigger injectors stick with the stock housing as EGT's will be higher. I would also reccommend a intercooler install from a newer 7.3 or 6.0 you can search the forum for a lot of writeups on that.
With a auto trans make sure you get a bigger trans cooler and temp gauge to keep an eye on it. For a valve body I would go with BTS or Racer X instead of Bullydog.
For the chip DP Tuner is good (also PHP, TW, and Gearhead) and I reccommend getting a multi-position chip instead of just one. It costs about the same. For example my PHP has Stock, 1200rpm high idle, 35hp tow, 60hp economy, 100hp performance, and 140hp extreme and it cost under $400 when I bought it. More options for tuning is always better IMO.
You'll love the 2's man, I have dp tuner and finally got my correct tuning and dang it moves now! But I have a 5spd and a 500hp clutch, you have 293k on that e4od wig aren't exactly made to last even on stock power. Stage 2's will kill that poor thing in a month
Well I guess if the stage two's kill the tranny it will give me a reason to buy a better rebuilt trans lol but it will be fun tearing it up haha.... As for the price on the HPOP that is what was stated on the website but I will e-mail him to find out for sure...
I was amazed at how affordable the HPOP can be from Joey if you supply a used pump for the upgrade to the modded 17* pump. You are lucky as you don't need to modify anything for the 17 to fit on yours.
For us '94.5-95 guys he has to swap the 17* guts into the 15* case because we have a anti-drainback valve in ours.
I sent him an e-mail to see what its going to cost me... I was looking at the difference between the stage 1 and 2's and they both flow 160cc of fuel I guess the stage 2's just empty into the cylinder faster... I wondering if keeping it at stage one with the HPOP and a multi-stage chip from DP tuners is the way to go...
If you are planning on upgrading the transmission anyways down the road I'd go ahead and get II's as long as you plan to upgrade the turbo later on as well to at least the D66 from Bean's Diesel. That way you only need to have the injectors apart once instead of having I's and then deciding to go bigger and needing to pull them again and send them in again to just get new nozzles.
The II's have bigger nozzles so they empty faster.
My opinion would be to go with Stage 2's, modded 17* HPOP, and DP Tuner chip with whatever tunes you want.
I think that is what I am leaning towards Stage I and II's were the same price to build so it's kinda a no brainer lol... It will take me a bit to get every thing together but I will prob do the injectors first then the HPOP should take me a couple months but won't be to bad lol... I am sure the gains are worth the wait...
Definately worth the wait. The stock HPOP should run the 2's ok but will probably cut out a little in the high RPM's, not a big deal for now though. Just take it easy on the tranny until you are ready to rebuild it.
Nothing wrong with building it a little at a time. That's what I've been doing...
I hear ya. I'm moving back home to Oregon in a few months so I need my auto to last at least that long. After that I'm rebuilding the ZF5 from my '88 F350 and getting a good SMF and Valair clutch combo and swapping the 5-speed into my '95. I can't wait!
