Question 2006 Security system prevents start ??

Does anyone have any experience with the security system. Specifically, I'm trying to understand what exactly will trigger a security system shutdown and what the owner can do to remove the shutdown?
It would seem unreasonable to need to have road side assistance or trailer it to a dealership to release the shutdown.

Thanks,

Using an un-programmed key is the only way it'll trigger, aside from a breakdown in the system somewhere. It's main functionality is internal to the ECU, only thing you could do is see if you can get a custom tune to disable it.

Hello 53,

I have a 99 150 Lariat that seems to have the same problme. From what I read

online is its not a simple thing to just bypass the system. Nor does the dealer want

you to. The dealer has a scanner to check the system, to see exactly where the

prblem lies. It could be as simple as a new key, but then the dealership may be

inevitable. Im trying to find out myself. I hope someone seesyour post and can be

of some help. good luck

The original key was used. Drove for 20 minutes, shut it down, 40 minutes later tried to start with the same key and it would not. Roadside assistance cleared the security event, and then it was fine.
Had one of those OBDII scanners/mileage computers plugged in and the belief is that this is what caused the security event. But there is no hard evidence. I have never read anyone else having a similar problem.

I seriously doubt the scanner caused the secruity event. What codes did you get?

No codes, the OBDII device was being used as a mileage computer. All worked great as I described above, until the security event was set.

I see you have a 2006, do you have and OBDII device on yours?
