Amazing how dumb some people are like the driver of the black avalanche that just keeps driving and even passes the rescue truck and gets in their way.
Ok, after 15 years (not as long as you did, VA) of running code 3 calls here in California, I thought Cali drivers were bad when it came to emergency units rolling code. But holy mackrel, that code run in the video with all those flippen idiot drivers ignoring the lights and siren until the last second, and in some cases just completely ignoring the fire unit, really irked the hell outta me! Yeesh, the drivers in NY are bad!
Reminds me of that video of the military patrol in Iraq just pushing vehicles outta their way. Made me wish the fire unit coulda done the same as the army guys in the humvee.
And that school bus driver should have their license yanked.
Around the 3:00 minute mark into the video, the driver did an extremely good job of threading the needle while he was going across that bridge.
As far as the yellow school bus... I think he/she was pretty much already committed to proceeding through the intersection before he/she saw the Excursion. Much like an Excursion, a school bus is not the easiest thing to stop on a dime. Plus you don't want to throw the kids around and break any noses or arms by slamming on the brakes. This is the type of thing emergency responders are trained to watch out for and avoid.
Not for very long. I'm going on my 29th year in the fire service (Full time), and it isn't fun for very long. We cover a long stretch of I-65 up here in NW Indiana, and it can be an absolute nightmare getting through there at times......
After about the 3rd or 4th year in emergency response through heavy traffic, whether you're 25 years od or 55 years old, it's already gotten real old.And the idiots on the road seem to get worse with each passing year as well.
Indeed, it is not fun here in the states, nor was it fun in Iraq. I like how some places try to roll a PD unit with the ambulance or fire truck, just to watch for really bad offenders and nab them.
Sounds like they need to put a train horn on that excursion for the idiots that cant hear the sirens lmao. And i cant imagine trying to get through that traffic driving a pumper or a ladder truck..

I re-watched the vid to see if maybe I was being too harsh, and I don't think I was.
In my opinion, that bus driver exhibited the same attitude that was prevelant in most of the other drivers in the video. The fire unit was far enough from the intersection, and the bus driver had enough time to react and stop before completely blocking the intersection. The windows were open on the bus so the driver had to hear the unit rolling code, plus I couldn't see any kids in the bus.
Just my humble opinion, but the bus drivers actions exemplifies what appears to be a New York driver attitude.
OK, I went back and watched the bus segment several times frame by frame. He/she was sitting still and had just received a green light and started rolling as the Excursion was fast approaching. He/she probably should have heard the Excursion, or at least waited long enough to see where the siren noise was coming from.
I can't recall anybody ever accusing school bus drivers of being the sharpest knife in the drawer anyway! Where I live, believe it or not, they turned down a retired deputy sheriff who applied. No health problems in rejecting him, and he simply wanted a part time job to occupy his time. Stupidest thing I have ever seen!
Thank was sorta fun "Ride Along ", but haven't a clue as to where we went, maybe 9-11 ?
BTW scottf4444, that's a nice ride you have.
Secret Service, ATF, Black-Ops or Swat, anyway, looks great !
woly **** .. i saw three or more excursions in that vid .. and OMG i am so glad i live on the west coast. i would ram people it i lived over on that side of the country ..
