welded a patch in over the gas filler hole. ground down but will require filler.
Welded a patch on the transmission tunnel where someone previously cut a hole with a set of torches.
finished up the driverside cowl support and covered in in some rust pain untill it sees the blaster.
Welded a patch in around the windshield from the inside. THis picture shows it half welded up, but not ground down.
UNsure how this hole got here.
But I butt welded a patch in its place, left the patch a bit low for easy filling.
I bent this piece and welded it there, fixing the windshield mounting surface,
As you can see here there is a large dent in this area and things arn't lining up well, so I cut that same section out of the 64.
Here it is welded up and ground down. A small amount of filler is going to make this piece look great.
Here is a picture of that section of the cowl with some paint on it, as well as a good shot of the rocker and floor repair.
I have about another 4 or 5 patches on the cab now and will upload some more pictures tonight if I can.
Here is a project update, I have located a 1995 crown vic up the road 1 mile for free! With a 115" wheel base none the less.
Should be tearing it apart shortly to steel the rolling chassis.
I did some welding today on the floor pans from the bottom side. So now the floors are stitch welded in on both sides.
Decided to tackle rebuilding the lip that was at the bottom of the firewall. As you can see in the picture, these pieces are just sitting there . still needing more holes for plug welds and some bending.
THose pieces welded in, and to each other.
A picture of both sides repaired with what I hope will work for mounting my cab mounts when they arrive.
What about that mid-eighties Ford truck sitting behind your truck in the first picture?
It's some sort of late 80's f-150 with a toasted motor, or maybe transmission. THere is actually a green 77 ford f 150 beside it. Again needing floors and drivetrain.
I didnt mean it negatively, you just have a ****load of finishing work ahead of you.
Ya, deffinently alot of finishing work. Im not going to get real fancy grinding down the welds on the bottom of the floor or the inside either. Seam sealer will fill the gaps from the stitch welding. and carpet will hide the floors.
BUt deffinently some filler required on some exterior patches. THe box alone is a ton of welding! BUt it's my first build and I am really impressed with how the steel work has gone. One month into the build and I have disassembled , cut, bent and installed 31 pieces of steel so far. Making it up as I go. Cab seems very solid now. Hope to get the crown vic home tomorrow for dissassembly.
I am planning on using the complete crow vic rolling chassis to build the 66 on. Neither of the f100 frames I have are salvageable. I will be reinforcing the Vic frame with some braces, and the car weighs 1636 kg's so should handle the slick.
This should lower the truck, give it power steering, disc brakes, power assist brakes, rear coils and sway bar etc... THe car I am getting only has 225 kilometres on the odometre and a functional 4.6L and AODE transmission, but I just can't mkae myslef put all that fuel injection stuff under the hood.. SO the drivetrain from the vic will not be used.
THis swap has been done before. and works on short box slicks, as Crown Vics have 115" wheelbase.
That's one I haven't heard of before - keep up the good work, and keep posting those pics. I'm trying to go with the CV crossmember and Lincoln Mark 8 IRS and drivetrain in my '65 F250 project. So far I have a CV front crossmember and I am looking for the Lincoln donor.
