It's a medium to heavy truck motor...also known as a Super Duty.

Engine alone weighs over 1000 pounds and engine redline was 3400 RPM.

Bahahaha thats awesome! With that redline, it might as well be a diesel!

Does anyone even make any performance parts for these?

No performance parts, at least not easily. There were turbo set ups for boats, but good luck finding one. A fellow had one for sale here, but afaik, it went to the scrappy as there were no takers.

The 534 sounds good because it's 5-3-4 big cubes. But it's a slug of a motor. And it weighs 1000 lbs, and add to that whatever trans you bring along with it.

You want performance, build the 351m into a 400, or go with a 460 or stroker 460.

Do yourself a favor....

If your gonna pull it or show it then go for it. They are hogs for gas. I am messing with IH big truck motors now. They are 3600 rpm motors. I have a MV446 out of a dump truck in an IH pickup. It'll run 5400rpms. I just picked up an IH LV549 too. It weighs 1200lbs. Alot for a Dana 44 to handle. Prolly too much. Exhaust could be an issue. Huge torque, deep sound and boy they drink gas. Not practical. But boy do they look cool under the hood. Go for it.

Like I said the redline or more specifically the engine governor is 3400, the engine WILL start throwing parts like connecting rods out the block at 3600.

And the assumption of calling it a diesel motor isn't so far fetched, it was considered just as good, if not better than the medium duty diesels available for the time.

yeah i figured, if i crammed that motor in my truck, id have to upgrade everything from the crank to the tires to handle that much torque. Also, because of that gas mileage, id have to buy a little $500 DD/Beater for getting to school in and what not

The Super Duty engines were designed for heavy hauling like dump trucks and grain haulers, not daily drivers or hot rodding.

I am guessing you have neither driven an old grain truck or have been stuck behind one where it takes 6 miles for the thing to get to 45 mph, if it ever gets there. With a Clark transmission and 2 speed rear axle it a chore to drive those things.

I think they liked to stuff them into fire trucks too...Not known as the most hot-rodded of all vehicles.

The 534 is rated at around 275 hp @3400 rpm and 490 lb.ft. @ 1800-2300 rpm.

Goes without saying that it's a beast of a motor, but I think you will run into more than you bargain for when you try getting everything together. For the money you will spend on adapting and fabricating pieces to make it work, you could build a beast of your own that already fits without modification.

Acceleration should actually be pretty good, considering that moving an empty 6000 pound truck would be a whole heck of a lot easier than moving an empty 13000 pound truck. Comparing one of our trucks to a loaded grain truck isn't quite apples to apples.

Gas mileage might not be that bad either, because with that kind of torque you wouldn't have to gas it much to move it. It certainly wouldn't be working hard to move a pickup truck!!

Still, despite the fact that it would be super cool to have a '70s model Super Duty pickup (you realize you'd have to have dual vertical exhaust out of the bed), it's going to be way too much trouble to get it to work.
