Hey guys i just got a 91 Ford E-150 conversion van with a 302 in it.
It has spark, It has gas, I undid the fuel line where it goes into the fuel filter and turned the key on and it blasted gas out for a few seconds then when the pump shut off it stopped and just dripped......
however when everything is hooked up even with a new battery (cranks fast) it won't start ! just crank and cranks.
Due to the dogbox inside because it's a van, i have very easy access to the fuel pressure regulator so should i replace it? Maybe the old bad gas it had gunked it up?
any ideas appreciated.
Also, what is the black filter looking thing mounted on the frame rail towards the back? another fuel filter ?
check fuel preasures...
pull codes...
study fordfuelinjection.com
FFI will tell you how to pull codes..
if you dont know how to check fuel preasure, ask..i know how and i know at least 7-8 other people that are going to see this know how..
and the black thing thing is the manuel fuel tank selector valve...if you have 2 tanks..im unsure about vans
Ok well it has some fuel pressure at the rail that's for damn sure. I pushed the shrader down with a pick and it squirted fuel out at a very very good rate. I'm not sure what i need to test the fuel pressure there, Well put it this way, I don't know what size the shrader is there . I have an assortment of 0-100 psi guages and such.
I also sprayed gas into the intake and it started right up and ran as long as my helper kept spraying. So the engine is good.
It hasn't been running in about 5 months until about 20 minutes ago when i was spraying gas into the intake and it was running....But like i said i know the engine is good since i just had it running for a few seconds.
Is there a seperate fuse or relay for the injectors themselves? I don't think they're opening and allowing fuel into the cylinders...
BUT I THINK I FOUND IT, is the fuel pump supposed to run while cranking? the high psi fuel pump runs for a second when the key is turned on but if i put my hand on it while i'm cranking it, it's not running?
Sounds like you have fuel at the rail but the injectors aren't getting a pulse, that is controlled by the EEC exclusively so your problem is electronic. If the EEC is not getting an ignition signal(PIP) from the TFI module on the distributor it won't fire the injectors, this engine should have a grey ignition module on it so try swapping on another one as an experiment, if there is a black module on the distributor that's no good either you need to change it to a grey one.
Well that's what i was thinking. Thanks for the straight answer. I didn't think there was a way all 8 injectors could be clogged lol although i am probably gonna pull the rail off and clean the injectors eventually.
i forgot i'm working on a ford so the distributor is on the front of the engine which is hard to get to. DAM IT!
i can't seem to find anything on the injector stuff I'll try to check tomarrow if someone dosen't beat me to it.
but the TPS, i had the same problem, and it was because mine was way way to low like it was in the negatives and it wouldnot run we had to adjust it way up.. im sure i can find the voltage specs..
