1.5" Gauges
1.5" Gauges
Since I didn't find any examples of this, I thought I'd post my installation of 1.5" gauges. I was looking for inexpensive gauges to monitor basic functions: engine temp, oil pressure, volts and trans temp. I also wanted to fill the space above the radio. Three of the gauges are Equus; the electrical temp that I used for the trans is Autogage.
The gauges cost about $65 total and the plastic comes from a basket I picked up at the dollar store. The radio trim I had on hand from an earlier project; I think it was about $15. I also converted the gauge lights to LED, which cost probably another $15. I superglued a piece of plastic with an LED holder mounted in it to the back of each gauge. The LEDs are wired inline and connect to the radio illum wire. The LEDs aren't quite as bright as they look in the last picture, although the light the produce isn't as even as the original bulbs.
I'm satisfied with the results. The trans temp is a little hard to read from the driver's seat because the sweep is so small, but the other three are easily visible. The black plastic is warped a little on the right because the piece is a little large for the opening. Maybe someday I'll take the time to trim it to size.
