Question Fuel Pressure Question

I recieved the undated fuel pressure spring and plate(the kit) but was reading around here and everyone said to take readings BEFORE install to have a base. Well I took readings this moring and Im making 52PSI at Idle, 46PSI at a 2500RPM run through all gears. and 28-30PSI at a WOT from dead stop. I am going to install the spring sometime soon this weekend maybe when I get time. I now I read it should never get below 45PSI. So my question is do you think this spring is really going to bring it up that much and if it doesnt what should my next step be? Thankss

i also stick a small screw thats the same size as the spring that will fit into the inside of the spring and the head is the same size as the outside diamiter.it will bump the fuel pressure above specs some to.

Yes, I think it will. If it doesn't, you have plugging (maybe filters, crimped line, etc) or pump issues, but IMO you still need the spring. I have not heard one case where the factory upgrade spring was installed and the pressure was too high.

Ok great I am really hoping it brings it up. I dont think I have a crimped line or stuck filters as I am change them at every oil change just to be safe so about every 8k(running synthetic with amsoil by-pass) so the fuel filters shouldnt get plugged. I also had a question. It looks like there might be an extra piece in the bag of parts. There is a little white plastic thing that the directions that came with it says it goes at the top. Other than that it looks rael straight forward....

that white plastic thing is a bleed valve you will see it when you take the cover off.

if you have oem filters you will see a bumb of 8-10 psi that has been what I have seen.

Installed the new spring this afternoon. It wasnt that bad except the bottom right side screw is really a pain in the neck. Got it going though. Fuel pressure is 60-62 at idle now. Havent taken it out down the street yet, started raining and didnt have a chance yet. Will post WOT readings later but guessing they will be better going just off of the idle numbers... Thanks to everyone...

Did this affect the starting/idling any? Does it sound smoother or no noticeable change? I'm getting ready to do mine with some other changes and was curious.

It took a good second to start as the system was open. But even still it started right up. Seemed to idle good. Storming here right now not going out to do any WOT test. Spring was definitly longer and stiffer. Was about 1/4in longer.

I belive it is the updated kit. Came with a blue spring and all the hardware o-rings and all. Came with a whole new cover and everything. Took it out last night and my findings are that at idle its making 61-62psi. At a take off from a dead stop running it to 2500-3000 in every gear to about 60 it never went below 52psi. WOT from dead stop to 70mph it did t drop to 35psi or so. Guess the pump cant keep up with the SCT. It does seem to start easier and idle well. All in all it is better then previous numbers. I am not to worried about the WOT numbers as that is rare for me to go WOT. I tend to drive it easy. Hope this all helps people.

Great Info Wolffee thanks for sharing. What is the part # for the updated spring kit? Other than this kit is there any other method to boost up fuel pressure? I use OEM filters that I change before required, I just want to make sure that I dont run into injector problems because of the fuel system.

Hey no problem on the info. I belive the part number is 9t517. Some people are boosting their pressure with a BB. I didnt do the BB but the people are having good results. Here is a link to a thread there was like 16 days ago or so. Its 4 pages long and good reading. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...g-upgrade.html
Good luck with it. I would recommend doing it. Do yourself a favor and take the air filter out so you can get to the clamp for the intake boost tube and take the tube out. Made life so much easier having out of the way. Other than that just do it with the engine cold so you can collapse the upper radiator hose or you will have a pain getting that bottom right hand torx out...Let us know how it goes.

I've been contemplating doing the spring upgrade but will be installing an ITP regulated return and an air dog II in the next couple weeks. Do I still need to upgrade the spring or will those mods help maintain the correct pressure, even at WOT?

Doing the ITP RR will totally eliminate the spring/plunger assy. and replace it with an aluminum block. The fuel pressure is regulated with a different regulator that comes in the ITP kit.
