I'm looking at an 05 Crew Cab Lariat with 100k miles with a bad engine. Its really reasonable and am thinking I can replace the engine and come out way ahead. Anyone have any ideas as to what it would cost or could cost to do this. As far as i know everything else was working when the engine went. Looking at options of finding a used engine from a junk yard with lower miles, or just going for a rebuilt one.
Thans for the help.....
Prices are all over the map on used engines. BTDT. I put an 06 engine in my 04 when it went down. There has been an interesting link here from time to time about a Black mamba 6.0. t will come up if you google it. The specs look great and the price is not terribly high for the specs. The problem is no one has ever responded to questions about owning one.

7k plus core seems like a really reasonable price for a complete engine with injectors and rebuilt turbo. Thanks for the info.
these trucks can be reliable do your maintenace and reliabilty mods and you will be alright. Maybe the last owner didnt take care of it. why did the moter go out is the tranny next. everyone says maintenace is the key to the 6.0 but that goes with any auto just my .02
