I need some help, AC not working and it is 90 plus every day. I am a regular over on the powerstroke and superduty forums. This is my first post here so bear with me. I have a 2000 F650 with Cat diesel power. I think it is a 3216 but not positive. On the passenger side of the engine compartment, near the AC compressor is an sensor attached to the AC line with a pigtail plugged into it. I can push in and or move the plug and the compressor switchs on and AC blows cold. Drive it and it quits at the first bump. Can anyone name the sensor so I can replace it? Does anyone have a fix for the issue? Thanks for reading and for any help you can give.
Most likely the low pressure sensor. If you're able to push the plug down to make it work, you probably need a new plug for the harness unless the contacts are loose in the sensor itself. A dealer can probably get it but don't know if they will put forth the effort. Salvage yard might be your best bet.
Is the switch on the small or large lineThe large line is low pressure where the low pressure switch is located
The smaller line is high pressure and should have a high pressure cut out switch which will also cut out the compressor if not connected
Many AC parts, like the pressure sensors are generic items that can be found brand-new in an auto parts store, you just have to really REALLY work at it if the store just relies on the computer to find parts.
Do you have a NAPA near you? You could probably just ask for the low-pressure sensor for your truck and they'll find it.
Also, pull the sensor, and see if there are numbers on it and possibly a brand-name.
Thanks folks,
Called Ford Parts. Sensor $20+ and pigtail $30+. Did not find it at parts stores yet. Decided to try one more shade tree fix. Pulled sensor, cleaned inside and bent pins slightly. Reconnected everything and it has worked now for 3 complete work days. As long as it works I will continue to use it as is. The way construction and development business is these days we have to save every dime. Thanks again for the replies.
