Cruise Control problems

This forum has been an excellent source of info before so I thought Id try again.

I have a 94 f150, some time lately the cruise control has quit working. I dont use it much so I dont know just when it died.
Other than replacing the fuse, does anyone have any ideas on the "usual" problems and remedies-----before I go out in the cold and start looking around?

Thanks for your comments,,,,,,,,,,

Cruise Control problems

I found this, it may help.

If not, a search of "cruise and control" yeilded many pages of threads. Of course, not all were what you'd need, but it sure gets you started.

Cruise Control problems

Mine would trip off when I put on the right hand turn signal. I was freaking thinking that I had a problem within the steering column...that is until I was backing up and noticed that the right stop lamp didn't work. ....I started pondering; since it's the same element for the right turn signal as for the stop light, and everytime you touch the brakes it deactivates cruise control, then maybe it was related.
Replaced the lamp, works super.

I would look at the base of the coloumn for a broken wire or missing bolt.

No power means a break in the current. (stating the obvious)

Look for the easy, then go for hard. Check the fuse and then borrow that wheel puller.

It sounds like you may have lost the ground to the steering column.

I had the exact same problem. Replace the cruise control module under the hood. For some reason the power to the horn goes through the module. When you replace it your cruise and horn will come back. And if possible look in a variety of different vehicles from your year, although the dealership says differently, the modules were common on alot of different platforms. I got one from an explorer for my F250. This reply hinges on the fact that you have an electronic servo controlled cruise module and not vacuum.

Cruise Control problems

Thanks for all the info, guys. Just an update on what I found to be the problem.

did some voltage checking---found signals going TO the steering wheel--but none comming back, after some help from my local body shop (since I was chicken to tackle the airbag) we pulled the steering wheel and found the "clock spring" under the wheel to be broken. Putting all this electrical crap in the steering wheel may be convenient---but surely not the cheapest thing to do.
This was the worst case scenario---and true to my luck, thats what it turned out to be. (about $125.00 with the assistance)

thanks again for all your comments and assistance.
