Diesel water drain system

Hello all. I was just reading the maintanance guide after I registered on the ford owners website. It was recommended that the water holding tank (for water in the fuel system located under the drivers seat under the frame) be drained once a month. This is my first diesel so I was wondering how much actually accumilates in the fuel system and is anyone draining theirs each month. Also should I warm up my truck before I drive it. As always thanks in advance for everyones input.

The amount of water retained by the fuel filter depends on how much water was in the fuel that you have purchaced at various stations. I always try to fill up at stations that sell a high volume of diesel fuel because I feel that there is a less chance of recieving a load of water with my fill up. In the 3 years that I owned my 08 6.4 diesel I never found any water in my fuel. I drained out about a pint of fuel or more every month. I drive mine about 1 min. after starting up.
