So not to get off the subject. But if the climate control doesn't sway between the defrost and the vent, that means the same vacuum pump is getting weak that runs the 4 wheel hubs as well??
I've been experiencing this intermittently the last year, and it still goes into 4 wheel fine. Hmm..now you have me wondering if it's a vacuum pump, or the line that feeds the climate control. Anyone know where that line runs exactly??
So easiest thing to do is just get everything pressure tested and go from there. As far as the "LOW" light goes how would I figure that out. If something is screwed up there could that keep in from engaging into 4wd all together?
The most common reason a truck won't go into low is that the driver either forgets or doesn't know that he has to have the truck in Neutral and his foot on the brake before the control module will attempt to shift.
I find with mine that I need to allow the truck to roll a little sometimes, while pressing the brake just enough to activate the brake switch, to get it to shift.
And no, a problem shifting into low won't cause the hubs not to lock. If the 4x4 light is on, the transfer case is shifted. Unless the transfer case is physically broken, which is very unusual.
