Did you get it working? I've had a few explorers from that era. Some of them actually have a ballast separate from the light that can go bad. I still have a good one here if you find out thats what you need.
remove the rear hatch inner door pane.l right behind where bulb would be is transformer i got a new one from salvage yard for 5 bucks all set 99 percent of the time its the transformer not the bulb assembly
