Unhappy Quick Question

Im sure i know the right answer, but i want to double check.. I thought i read some where that NOS isn't flammable, thus wouldn't explode like in Fast and the Furious. True or False. I say False. Ive just dipped a few toes into the street racing scene, cause im covered head to toe in mud, so nos and fast trucks and cars are new to me. Thanks for the help.

Quick Question

Nos itself is not flammable. It does not combust be itself. What happens is when it reaches a certain temperature it breakes apart into a nitrogen compound and oxygen and thats where you get the extra power cause of the extra oxygen. But lets say the car catches on fire. Like any compressed gas will increase its presure and expand. Then if there get to be to much pressure it will then explode and since it will be at such high temperatures and theres so much combustable materials nearby you get a fire show. and depending on how much leaky fuel and such will determine the size of the explosion.

Quick Question

Actually the bottle explodes when it gets to hot, from the increased pressure. Nos is more trouble than it is worth.

ALL NOS bottles are equipped with pressure release valves. When the temp. of these bottles goes up and the pressure rises the valves open and the NOS is dumped into the atmosphere,. If the bottle is mounted in the trunk, You have a trunk full of NOS gas...

NOS itself will not burn.. It is an OXIDIZER it only aids in combustion because of its high Oxygen content This is why fuel is added with the NOS when it is injected...
Don't add enough fuel and you get a lean mixture that will MELT things.....

Quick Question

First, NOS is a brand, in case you don't know. Nitrous Oxide or N2O is not combustable, neither is oxygen. It is an accelerant. Fire needs oxygen. More oxygen spreads fire faster. More combustables with more oxygen creates more fire FAST. How often does someone come up to you and start spraying bullets into your ride? If it's more than once a year, you've got some major problems! Nitrous is very safe, and won't cause any problems unless you are already on fire. If you go to the drag strip to race, your insurance rates go up, so you might as well get some return, right?? Also, fuel isn't flammable either. I know people will give me hell on this, but it is true physics!! The fumes are, however explosive. Big gas tank with one gallon in it, hot, ad a match, BOOM. Driving around with your car on E is more dangerous than a bottle of nitrous for this reason. This is one of the reasons racers use small fuel cells. Less fumes. That's why people talk about full atomization like it's a good thing. The gas has to become a vopor before it will burn. If you want to argue with me on this, you can email me at xcutnr1(No Email Addresses In Posts!)

Quick Question

I wanna argue a little. Gasoline is still flammable because in the vapor form it is still gasoline. I know that you can toss cigarettes into a pail of gas on a cold winter day and not worry about it exploding. However i bet that if you held a match to it that would definetley catch.

Quick Question

N2O isn't as dangerous as pure O2 and you see them hauled all over the place(gas welders), But all compressed air/gas bottles become a pain when extreme heat and fire is involved. I don't know for sure if its a minor urbane legend or not but I heard one about two brothers who were amateur racers and had an epiphany of sorts and thought if N2O is good O2 is better and rediscovered why its not used that way. I guess from the legend the pure O2 caused a runaway fire and desroyed the car. Its easy to dismiss these as just stories but NASA and the Russian space program both fried astronauts proving what was already known, Pure O2 atmospheres are dangerous.
