I'm looking at a private sale Expedition and wondered if anyone here had access to CarFax or some sort of VIN check. A while back someone could do them for free and was offering it to people on here. Maybe a long shot, but thought I would ask!
I have 2 left and no use for them. I just purchased an Expedition on Monday and didn't use all of them in the batch I bought. If you can get the VIN to me I can run it then figure out how to send you the results.
Thanks! I may take you up on it. I just got back from test driving the Expedition and was not impressed with it, so I won't waste your time with this particular one. I have another two to drive tomorrow.
This one had an annoying hissing sound coming from under the dash whenever we would come to a stop, like air leaking out of something. My wife and I joked that there was a snake under the dash, but it really sounded like it! Couldn't tell what it was. It also had a muffled "white noise" sound coming from the third row area above 40 mph that sounded like air coming through the vents, or static from audio equipment (both were completely off). In the end I think it might be actually rear differential noise. Ever hear of either "noise" issue? Regardless, that and the bad brakes and mismatched tires made me believe it wasn't a well maintained vehicle.
My remaining two expire on 9/27, so you have till then. I don't expect to be using them.
I've heard of the hissing under the dash. I bought my Expedition from a car lot, but from the carfax, I knew where the truck lived. I called the closest Ford dealer there and they had service records for it. One of the items was a hiss from the dash area. The repair says a vacumn line had come loose behind the glove box. Sounded like a simple fix.
I can't say on the rear end noise in particular to Expeditions. I know rear ends can make noise if they were changed or changed and not broken in right. Usually this sounds like a howl or a whine. I don't know what can cause them to start making noise if they have been fine for a while.
Dealer showed me the AutoCheck, but I didn't think to ask to keep it. I think I will do what you did and call the local dealers for service records.
I'm not sure if you can send it in an email as a PDF or how is works.
I really appreciate this.
