beeping sequence

My truck when I start it will beep 5 times for 5 times. Is that a special code for something? My check engine light is on and I have narrowed that down to a IAC valve. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

How did you narrow it down? Did you use a code reader?

I read the posts about the IAC and the "howling" noise and that is what mine is doing. So I bought a new one today and need to put it in. The mechanic pulled a code that said that I had fuel to lean in bank one and bank two. He wanted to replace the MAS but I had replaced it about a year ago. I did not think that that was the problem with the howling. My neighbor and I looked at it and narrowed it down to the IAC but I don't know if that would solve the fuel lean in bank one and two codes we were getting??? I was wondering if the beeping issue is related to the IAC.
Thanks
Dan

The beeps might be the backup warning for a burned out SRS/air bag warning bulb.

Does the bulb light up with the other idiot lights when you turn the key to run?

My neighbors 97 4.0 sounded like a fog horn when it was idling. Just above an idle it was quiet. It was the IAC.

The lean codes could be a vacuum leak/low fuel pressure/dirty MAF. Check the PCV hose for any leaks. Seems to be a common problem on some Ranger engines.

What are the codes? The lean bank codes are often a sign that the O2 sensores need to be replaced. How many miles do you have on the truck?

The truck has 215,000 miles on it. I replaced the IAC valve and the howling noise has stopped but the beeping sequence I mentioned still continues. The engine is running better since the replacement.
Thanks

BUMP:

Good find fix & feedback on the IAC.

Did you get the lit CEL codes pulled & address that problem/s????
DON'T ignore a lit CEL.

On the Beep, as has been asked, is the passenger air bag indicator lamp out at KOER, before you crank the engine????
Do you have a blikning air bag warning lght???? If so, count the blinks & post the number/s.

The light on the passenger air bag is out and does not come on with all the other idiot lights.
Thanks for your help.

Here is a replacement thread on the passenger air bag warning light, that you may find interesting.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/2...on-switch.html

EDIT: If you decide to attempt replacement, be sure to First disconnect the B- battery cable & wait 15-30 min for back up memory systems to depower, or just leave a door open, or light on & that should apply enough electrical load to drain any remaining charge out of things online.

Then be sure to read ALL the way through the thread, to find how to remove the switch assy & or to attempt the lamp replacement/repair.

If your of a mind to do that, be sure to pay close attention to the resistance values mentioned.

More thoughts for pondering.
