A run down on how I came to the DTC code below ( C1998) I used a CanOBDII reader to see if I had any codes in my Navigator. I had codes C1277 (which is steering wheel angle sensor) and anothe code B1676 (which is low voltage code, I know about this one becaue my alternator is going bad)
Now I didnt have the C1998 code when the other two were showing. So I cleared the two codes (C1277 and B1676). Thats when the OBDII read another code of C1998and then the advance trac light came on.
Now Im getting a DTC code of C1998. I searched the TBS area and I could not find the full TSB for this code (it came from my Lincoln and the full TSB area isnt Lincoln friendly yet, LOL) . I also searched the forum and found a few threads where a guy was asking the same thing but never really came back and followed up on what he had to do to get rid of the code.
Anyone have any idea if this is a dealer only item to be reset or replaced?
I also came across this on a site with TSB's on that described the code: STABILITY ASSIST (ADVANCETRAC/IVD) SYSTEMS MAY NOT BE RECALIBRATED PROPERLY USING WDS
What is a WDS or what does it stand for and how can I get one to calibrate the system?
the wds is fords out dated computer, world diagnostic system, it was replaced by the IDS a few years ago and yes to recal that module you need the ids or wds or pds but there is a good chance you have a problem with the sensor however due to your low voltage that could be your problem
I put a new Alt. in the truck and hooked up the code reader and the two codes I erased are gone now, but the C1998 still remains. It seems that the module has to be recalibrated, anyway I can do this at home or do I have to go to the dealer?
