Brake Bleed Advice

Hi all,

I've been reading a lot about the brakes since I think my first winter project will be to replace the flex lines and do a full bleed of the system. All these posts of brake failure has me wanting to upgrade. I know that if it aint broke, don't fix it, but I like to upgrade things while working in the area. I'm at 95k and things are needing replacing.

So my question is this: I want to get into a good power bleed tool and have seen a few mentioned in the posts that I will check out. Does anyone have any advice on a good one that will last while fully bleeding the system? I have the scan tool so I can open up the ABS valves, so all set there. I am looking for a good to great bleeder that will last me and ease getting every bit of air out of the lines without too much trouble.

Also, does anybody have any good lines that they would recommend? Flex, Steel, etc... I would appreciate any good or bad advice on any of the lines out there you have used.

Once again, thanks for the opinions on this one.

Brian

Motive Brake Bleeder is what I use. It's a well made bleeder. Also, unless you've replaced your hydraulic control unit, or if you suspect air is in your HCU, the ABS system doesn't need to be bled with a diagnostic tool.

That's straight from the Ford website for dealership technicians, not a website like ALLDATA.

How do you have all of this at your finger tips! I think you have answered on every one of my posts and quoted an older post to back it up. Must be the brotherhood, or my complete lack of good key words! I have searched for hours and had not seen that post.

This is great info. I was a bit confused as some of these posts have said it is a must, but the ford dealer site is the one I will follow.

What are your thoughts on upgrading lines? They are in decent shape and have served me 95k to date, but I am curious on peoples thoughts on upgrading.

reps on their way.

I know when I've read posts on a vehicle forum where people upgrade their lines, they swear by the braided lines that are used.

IIRC, I've read a post here on FTE where someone made their own lines and really liked the results.

It was either brake lines or transmission lines that were replaced. Sorry, I have CRS.

Which scan tool do you have? I second the Motive bleeder - I bought one for my shop with all of the adapters and it's working great so far on a variety of vehicles. Very easy to use and very quick.

I saw that post too, it was both stock and custom fit brake lines. Not sure I want to tackle that one. I am a very limited time weekend mechanic, so bolt on is always best for me. I read the same things about the braided, which is why i posted this one. Just looking for some tried opinions on the mod. I will probably end up using flex lines from ford unless I can find any great reason to upgrade. I am happy with the pedal feel now, so the increase in feel is not that important to me as it may be some others.

I bought the equus innova 3160. Honestly, I just got the package a few days back, so I haven't even looked at the book yet. This is my first foray into the scanners, so I am a bit green here. The last time I really wrenched a car, was all VW early models, so these things didn't come into play. I've been so busy over the past 10 years working, the dealer did it all for me until I found this forum.

I'll check out the Motive, was searching last night and like what I see so far.
