Need some glowplug advice.
Help, I'm in the boonies on the west coast of Oregon. I don't think there is a ford dealer near by and I really don't want to find one unless I have to. My glowplug indicater has quit. When I turn on the key the "loopy line" does not light up. anybody have any experience in this area? Does the failed indicater mean the whole glowplug circut is out or is it more likely that the light in the dash is just blown. Either way, I'm not going to hurt anything by driving it as it is, right?
I would not worry about it. The weather is warm enough they were probably not being energized.
I would deal with it when you get home.
It should still go thru a self test and briefly light on the dash, so hard to say but I doubt the light is burnt out.
BTW the module is on the valve cover, passenger side.

I'm not sure if this is your issue, but out here with the warm weather, after the first start up my glow plug indicator won't turn on at all for the next few hours(at least) after shutting the truck off. Even if it's the morning cold-start it will only stay on for 2-3 seconds.
For example, I just drove my truck across town. It's been shut off for 2hours now so if I go put the key in and turn it on, the glow plug light will not illuminate.
The altitude and temperature impact glow plug operation. Here in phoenix you can crank the key right over without waiting for anything... the wife confirms this every time she drives
. At 9400ft elevation with about a 45degree night, the light will stay on for about 10-15 seconds and if you start it early, the engine spits and sputters(sounds like an old school diesel) before it finally settles down to the normal idle (thanks wifey for the testing). It also always comes on no matter how warm the engine is when you start it.
