e fan conversion

can anyone recommend a good e-fan? I would like to remove the standard clutch fan on my 5.4 in favor of the electric fans. I know there are plenty of options like flex-a-lite, but their are no specific kits only universal.

Taurus 2 speed, maybe?
FORDMUSCLE webmagazine: Junkyard Electric Fan

Do some research on if it would work, but it was popular with the Jeep guys. I almost put on in my 5.2L Grand Cherokee, but never got around to it.

well, if you look into electric fan kits, you won't find anyone offering one - well i never did but i quit looking a couple of years ago... if you run an electric fan and pair it with a fan controller, the fan will cycle on and off. normally that is a good thing. BUT on an E, the stock fan is spinning all the time. one benefit of this is that there is a constant flow of air thru the doghouse which helps keep cabin temps bearable. having installed a pair of 16" 3000cfm flex-a-lite e fans on my stock rad core 6 or 7 years ago, i can tell you that without that airflow, it gets warm up front. too warm.

being of scottish descent, i could not reinstall the stock fan and discard the e fans. now remember i am driving a BB E350 with thorley headers, so there is not a lot of free space in the doghouse. i strongly considered going to one or two of the continental mk7 electric fans (check the forums - very high cfm and big too) but i really wanted to make what i had work. i also considered a couple of small inline blowers, like used in nascar for brakes and cabin cooling etc, configured to blow over the engine but i didn't feel like fighting the eng compartment space limitations.

in the end, i installed an excursion radiator - i could get it cheap and back then aluminum rad's were definately not that. and i added 3 900cfm 10 inch fans to the pair of 16" fans. two of the 10" fans run continuously. as far as i have been able to tell, this keeps temps down enough that my shoes don't melt on the floor.

it has taken a few years to make the e fans work. was it worth it? probably not. but i am glad i did it just because. be happy to answer any questions - please remember this is just my experience. someone else may have been more successful going a different path.

I concur on the high temps. here in vegas its been rediculously hot since buying the van. the a/c just cant keep up. its good to know the e-fan would help with that. the real reason for adding one is to improve mileage/performance.

So would I need a puller style? Also wasnt sure how many cfm's the motor needs. Is bigger better? dual fans vs. single? Ultimately I may take it to a shop for the install, just not wanting to get ripped off on a project i could potentially do myself.
